In China, there are countless factories that wholesale and produce glass bottles. We visited the largest glass bottles manufacturer in China and learned a lot about glass materials from them. Today we will talk about the difference between high borosilicate glass and ordinary glass.
High borosilicate glass and ordinary glass play a very important role in our daily life, but how can we distinguish them? The differences between high borosilicate glass and ordinary glass are as follows:

Different ingredients
Ordinary glass is actually sodium calcium silicate glass, its main component is silicon dioxide actually, and the main component of high borosilicate glass is boron trioxide and silicon dioxide. In the production process of ordinary silicate glass, sodium silicate sand, soda water, and ground lime are also added.
In general, the boron content and silicon content of high borosilicate glass can reach 14% and 80% respectively, while boron is generally not added to ordinary glass. So the main components of high borosilicate glass and ordinary glass are different.
Different coefficients of thermal expansion
Compared with ordinary glass, high borosilicate glass has a very low thermal expansion coefficient, only one-third of that of ordinary glass. This difference reduces the impact of temperature gradients and provides greater fracture resistance. Therefore, the thermal expansion coefficient of high borosilicate glass is different from that of ordinary glass.
Different performance
High borosilicate glass has good ability of fire resistance, high physical strength. Compared with ordinary glass, it has no toxic effects. Meanwhile, its mechanical properties, thermal stability, water resistance, alkali resistance, acid resistance, and other properties are greatly improved. Besides that, it also has good thermal stability, chemical stability, and electrical properties to reach stronger chemical erosion resistance, thermal impact resistance, mechanical properties, and high-temperature resistance.
The tensile strength of high borosilicate glass will be higher than ordinary glass, so its crack will be larger relatively. Therefore, the tensile strength of high borosilicate glass is different from that of ordinary glass.
